I have always been interested in art going to as many exhibitions as I can in London.

After many years of procrastination, I decided it was now or never as the years were ticking by too fast.   I travel backwards and forwards between Portugal and the uk.   Most of my work takes place in Portugal and with BJ’s encouragement and her enthusiasm as a teacher I have gained confidence and enjoy working in a group.  I am prepared to be adventurous but have to be inspired by the subject I have decided to work on.

I get very excited when I have decided to undertake a painting and it is when I am about halfway through that I realise I have taken on quite a challenge.  At this point I rely on BJ’s encouragement and help to work towards completing the work.

"Horse in Mist   "

Riding out on a misty morning.

I saw The Rider in a magazine.   It was necessary to contact the photographic agency to check copyright.  I found the photo very atmospheric and again was attracted by perspective and the muted colours of early morning

"Parasols in Olhao  "

Parasols in Olhao was such a happy scene and I loved the bright primary colours.  The perspective was a challenge.

"Guitarist in Obidos  "

We had been focusing in class on figure drawing and I felt the guitarist was a great example of the beautiful curves of the body and hand positions to illustrate figure painting.   The colour blue seemed to be typical of Portugal.
