Jill Fortes
I am from Yorkshire in the UK and live several months of the year in the Algarve.
I started painting in watercolour a few years ago
and have attended a few classes in the UK and here. As well as picking up knowledge from the teachers it is also a good way to pick up tips from other artists.
I enjoy visiting art galleries and gain inspiration from other artists. I live near to Saltaire in the UK so visit the Hockney exhibitions in Salts Mill and particularly like his portraits.
I like the impressionists for their interpretation of light and also their depiction of modern life.
My favourites are Monet, Manet, Mary Cassatt, Berthe Morisot and John Singer Sargent.
I have been doing quite a lot of drawing at home
in the lockdown and now quite enjoy attempting portraits as well.
"Sunset at BJs beach bar in the Algarve "
I had always wanted to try painting a sunset and loved the way the boat in the foreground created an anchor for the painting. The blend of colours created by the sky and reflected in the sea was also the inspiration.

"Shapes of the Sea "
This was my first attempt with acrylic paint. I was interested in the pattern formed by the wave movement and surf.
I loved the way you could paint over areas to emphasise the white and blue shapes.
