Art has always been important to me. I studied at school and Teacher’s Training College and afterwards  I used my creativity to draw out young children’s natural joie de vivre. It only really began for me again when we came to the Algarve . Colour and Shape have always been my conduit. I have found that however you would like your style to be something inside dictates differently. It has mattered too much so that it can be purgatory. I liken it to jumping into a dark unlit space. So alongside this I have sung since I was eleven with small and large choirs and as a soloist. The clock is ticking so I had better get on. Unfortunately I am a perfectionist so it can take some time to finish.
I see everything in Colours and Shapes.
Siesta in Venice.jpg

"Siesta in Venice "

In the 90’s our holiday in Florence allowed us to spend a day in Venice, a city of light, colour, shapes and sounds. On our way back from St Mark’s, through the narrow streets and over countless small bridges to the station ,I quickly leant over a bridge and took this photo and hurried on. Pre-digital days. Always loved the photo and as BJ wanted ‘Boats and Water’ the painting was born.

Rachel Barnoldswick.jpg

"Rachel’s Barnoldswick in the Pennines "

While visiting her family in the UK my friend Rachel Bowker walked on a typical Pennine day of wind and showers . She took this photo and longingly mused that she would love a painting someday. As a Pennine girl myself I was already there. So this was her surprise Christmas present done quite intensively for me as I had a deadline!

Serra D Estrela .jpg

"Serra D’Estrela above Manteigas "

Our tour of Portugal in Sept 2019 included my birthday on top of the Serras. It reminded me of Yorkshire’s windy, wild, and vibrant vistas. It has passed through many phases to get here. Thanks to this Exhibition I had to end it’s lifecycle.
